Presidential elections in Seaford, 2020

The Newsday website of 12.13.2020 has an interactive map for the Election District results in Nassau and Suffolk counties. The map and the numbers may disappear from the website soon as news replaces old news.

In a nutshell, Donald Trump won all the Election Districts of Seaford. Along Sunrise Highway, he won the districts from the closed Olive Garden in Massapequa to Newbridge Road. Along Wantagh Avenue, Trump won from the bay north almost to Hicksville. The vote was around 65% for Trump to Biden's 35% in many Election Districts. Nowhere in Seaford did he cross 70%. Nowhere in Seaford did Biden cross 40%.

Display about High Hill Beach

At the entrance to the Seaford Public Library, the display case shows a marvelous collection of views of High Hill Beach offered by Fred Roth. I had forgotten that there were so many homes there, and that some survive at West Gilgo.  Many thanks!

In 2007, I reported a presentation by Joshua Soren about High Hill Beach. Please click HERE.

Tim Hortons and the missing apostrophe

The Bolla Market which recently opened on eastbound Merrick Road in Seaford, just before the Hempstead/Oyster Bay town line, has a staffed counter for Tim Hortons coffee, donuts, and breakfast sandwiches. I noticed the missing apostrophe. The explanation is HERE.
---
Shortly after Expo '67, Quebec nationalists insisted on French-only signs. The apostrophe in Tim Horton's brand name was English, so it was dropped.

Wantagh Public Library is open

One may enter the Wantagh Public Library, browse shelves, and check out books. Two noted restrictions: 1) No seating is allowed; 2) Book returns must be done in special bins near the entrances. Books may not be returned at the counter. Presumably, this is done to quarantine the books for a few days.

School budget vote by mail only

Please see this executive order by Governor Andrew Cuomo: HERE..
Throughout New York state, the date for the school budget and trustee seats is June 9, 2020. However, all votes will be by mail, and the school districts will send out absentee ballots. Other districts have announced these plans on their websites, but Seaford has not yet done so. I presume the library vote will be heldon the same day.
