Veterans' Day, 2010, in Seaford, New York

Thursday, November 11, 2010. -- Veterans' Day Ceremony was held at 10:45 a.m. at the Seaford American Legion post, 2301 Penatiquit Avenue, Seaford. The post is named for Edwin Welch, who lost his life near the Meuse River on November 8, 1918, three days before the Armistice. An excellent biography of Edwin Welch appears in the Wantagh-Seaford Citizen, 11.4.2010, page 11.

Election Day, 11.2.2010. Cuomo vs. Paladino Results

This year, the election coverage has facilitated some analysis of votes cast in Seaford, as Newsday.com gave the results of the governor's race on a map which displayed the election districts and the unofficial totals for each ED. As the boundaries of the various entities of Seaford are not always contiguous, even the following description is open to argument. For example, the east border of the Seaford zip code 11783 includes part of the Town of Oyster Bay north of Ontario Avenue. What follows is an attempt to describe the November, 2010, gubernatorial election results in Seaford.
----
Beginning at the bay and moving north to Merrick Road, from about Cedar Street to Seaman's Creek, there are four ED's, which Paladino took 993-873.
----
Between Merrick Road and Sunrise Highway from about Oakland Avenue to Tackapausa are four ED's, which Paladino took 659-558.
----
Between Sunrise Highway and Jerusalem Avenue from NY 135 to the town line are four ED's, which chose Andrew Cuomo 830-786.
----
North of Jerusalem Avenue towards where Seaman's Neck Road leaves the Town of Hempstead are five ED's, which chose Andrew Cuomo 841-734. The Seaford Post Office continues a short distance beyond that northern point. The school district north of Jerusalem Avenue is Levittown UFSD 5. South of Jerusalem Avenue, the district is Seaford UFSD 6.
----
In the areas I have included as Seaford, Paladino beat Andrew Cuomo by 71 votes. Other candidates received 208. Total votes cast were 6,482. In my ED, the percentage of registered voters who actually cast votes was about 43%, a rate similar to that of Nassau County.

Thanks for voting! Thanks to the courteous and competent staff that ran the polls!
