Wantagh Independence Day Parade

Despite the downpour during the Wantagh Independence Day parade on Saturday, July 3, 2021, someone posted a series of excellent photos on the Wantagh.LI facebook page.

Independence Day parade, 2019, Wantagh

Many Wantagh and Nassau County organizations made today's Independence Day parade a half-hour success. My camera worked against me, and I lost the first 14 photos. The photos below are from the near end of the parade, after the Wantagh Fire Department's rolling equipment. Many thanks to all who participated. I was grateful that the Kiwanis club distributed good-quality flags to the enthusiastic spectators.

Independence Day Parade, 2016, Wantagh

The parade went north on Wantagh Avenue, east on Island Road (where these photos were taken), and south on Beech Street to the elementary school.  Any photo may be enlarged by clicking on it.

Independence Day Parade, 2012, Wantagh

Appropriately, the veterans' color guard led the parade, July 4, 2012, north on Wantagh Avenue, Wantagh.  These are members of the Wantagh post of the American Legion.  The Wantagh Pipe Band added music, at this point, "America the Beautiful," with its wish, "Crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea."

The Vietnam War Veterans Association marched to applause from the people.

The Comanche Raiders marched with the numerous volunteers of the Wantagh Fire Department and twenty-three fire trucks and rescue vehicles.

The students of the Wantagh High School Band provided energetic marching tunes.

July 4, 2009, parade in Wantagh

Since Seaford, New York, did not have an Independence Day parade, you may wish to see photos of this year's Wantagh parade here or here. Special thanks to the five or six bands which participated: the Wantagh Pipe Band, the Comanches, the Nassau Police band, a unit or two of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and high school students from Wantagh. (Sorry, but the parade photos are not presented in order of march. The American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans were up front.) If anyone can identify the bands more closely for me, please leave a comment! Thank you.
