On the morning of May 26, 2014, the Seaford American Legion and other organizations honored those who died in combat with a parade to the marker at Seaford Middle School.

9/11 memorial at Seaford Fire Department 2013

At 6:30 a.m. on September 11, 2013, the Seaford Fire Department dedicated this monument ourside the firehouse on Southard Avenue.  The monument includes a fountain, two pieces of twisted steel from the World Trade Center, a bench, and plantings.

Fire Commissioner George Von Glahn led the ceremony, introducing guests, and also explaining the history of the construction of the memorial and its design by Seaford residents.  Chaplain Msgr. Steve Camp gave the invocation, words of encouragement ("We are stronger than steel"), and the blessing. The police pipe band vigorously offered a series of patriotic and meaningful pieces, including the U.S. Army song, "Over There," "Anchors Away," the Marines' Hymn, Amazing Grace, America the Beautiful, and "You're a Grand Old Flag."

Harvest Fair, Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012

The Sixth Annual Harvest Fair will take place on Sunday, September 30, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Seaford Historical Museum located at 3890 Waverly Avenue in Seaford between Jackson Avenue and Southard Avenue.  This event will take place rain or shine.
The Seaford Historical Society Harvest Fair is fun for the entire community.  The "Pumpkin Patch" will have an assortment of pumpkins, mums, hay bales, and cornstalks for sale.  Beautiful autumn crafts also will be for sale.
Come, have lunch at the Food Tent!  Delicious clam chowder, hot dogs, popcorn, soda!  Also, the always popular Bake Sale Table will be filled with scrumptious homemade goodies to tempt you!
Be sure to take a chance on the terrific Grand Prize Raffle -- Apple iPad!
For the kids there will be face-painting, pumpkin decorating, games, prizes, and more.  And, new this year, an entertaining educational show about animals called "Erik's Reptile Edventures!" will take place at noon for both kids and adult enjoyment!
The Seaford Fire Department will display various fire-fighting equipment, along with the E.D.I.T.H. trailer, as part of their effort to teach children about fire safety and home evacuation.  
Thee will be a performance by the Seaford High School Jazz Band at 1:30 p.m. under the direction of Mr. Anthony Romeo.
And there will be a performance by the Seaford High School Barbershop Quartet.
This enjoyable event is an essential fundraiser in an ongoing effort to renovate and update the Seaford Historical Museum.  We need your support to achieve this goal!

Memorial Day, 2010

Above is the war memorial placed in a park at the Seaford railroad station. The Town of Hempstead maintains this park, which is shaded by lofty trees. A year or two ago, at a meeting of the Seaford Historical Society, I got the impression that no record could be found of a Seaford resident serving in the U.S. Civil War, the war that generated the custom of Decoration Day. The appellation Seaford did not yet exist here; the residents were farmers and fishermen needed for their produce; and the draft office for Queens County was in Jamaica.

"I'd just like to give a word of thanks to the Seaford Wellness Council, Seaford American Legion, Seaford Fire Department, Long Island Horticultural Society and Boy Scout Troop 239. For 2010, I know they maintained the WWI Memorial near the train station in Seaford. Congratulations on joint effort that was well done." Above, members of Seaford's American Legion Post march north on Washington Avenue, Memorial Day, 2010. Edwin Welch, born in 1895, lost his life on November 8, 1918, three days before the Armistice, after his regiment of engineers had repaired a bridge across the Meuse. They found shelter in a house in Remille, but they came under fire, and Edwin was killed. Surviving relatives live here on the South Shore of Nassau County.

Memorial Day parade, 2008

Fire Districts Public Budget Hearing

It seems that a new state law requires fire districts to hold public hearings on their budgets, even though the citizens apparently do not get to vote on the budgets. It seems that these hearings must be held on the same day, October 16, 2007. The Seaford Fire District will hold its hearing at 7:30 p.m. at the Waverly Avenue fire house. The Wantagh Fire District, which covers much of Seaford, will hold its hearing at 7 p.m. at the Park Avenue fire house.
